Most popular areas in the Maldives
One of the great attractions of the Maldives are the endless number of top-quality diving options and nearly every resort has an access to a dive centre. The reefs are so abundant that divers can swim from one to the other, although each dive site has its own characteristics, despite their close proximity. In the channels, divers can find caves and overhangs full of coral, a wide range of invertebrates and sponges.
There are many reefs inside the atolls and form the body of the atoll. They are restful sites, pretty to look at, and always available. With the abundance of surrounding sea, various styles of fishing can be enjoyed.
Kayaking, canoeing and waterskiing are freely available at each atoll and visitors are spoilt for choice for ways to spend their days.
Info about Maldives
The islands of Maldives lie between the trading routes of the Indian Ocean. Travellers and traders from around the world have come in contact with the islands for as long as history has been recorded. This passing of people and their cultures has had a marked effect on the Maldivian people, their belief, and their language.
Each atoll is unique in its people and the language differs in some regions in all probability due to the secluded nature and subsistent ways of island life. Maldivian cultural music played with the local bodu-beru (big-drum) resembles that of African drumming and is a pleasure to listen to. The dhoni (a unique Maldivian sailboat) is built with significant similarities to the Arabian dhows.
The weather in the Maldives is generally picture perfect, boasting sunlit days, breezy nights, balmy mornings, and iridescent sunsets which is what makes it such a popular destination. The average temperature at about 30 degrees Celsius throughout the year, although the Maldives has two distinct seasons; dry season from January to March (northeast monsoon) and wet season from May to November (southwest monsoon).
