Information about Krabi

Krabi is a town on the west coast of southern Thailand at the mouth of the Krabi River into the Andaman Sea. Krabi has many cliffs and caves where ancient colour paintings, stone tools, beads, pottery and skeletal remains have been found. It is believed that Krabi has been home to homo sapiens since the period 25,000- 35,000 B.C. The natural forest cover is mainly mangrove and Cassia trees and Krabi’s sandy clay soil conditions are perfect for Palms, Oranges, Coconuts and coffee. Temperatures range between 16.9 and 37.3 degrees Celsius, making it ideal as an island holiday destination.

Lazy beach days can be spent on many of the picture postcard beaches in Krabi, most notably Ao Nang beach set amongst the towering outcrops or the isolated peninsula of Railay, where the beautiful beaches and cliffs surpass all others.

Than Bokkharani and Khao Phanom Bencha National parks are a nature lover’s dream and boast some wonderful bird and wildlife on offer.

Diving is one of the foremost reasons for visiting Krabi, and Anemone Reef; Shark Point; and King Cruiser Wreck are recognised as some of the best sites in the world. These waters are home to thousands of species of fish and coral, including leopard and whale sharks, turtles, moray eels and dolphins.

If snorkelling is your thing, the islands around Ao Nang offer incredible shallow water sites are teeming with beautiful reefs and marine life. Koh Si and Koh Yawasam are the two most popular sites.

Krabi is also boasts some world-class sites for rock climbing, with its thousands of sheer limestone cliff faces, overhangs, and caves it caters for both the professional solo climber and the complete beginner. There are about 600 mapped routes around Railay and Ton Sai Beach where visitors can enjoy stunningly scenic climbs. Beginner rock climbing courses are offered in Krabi and the system used in Krabi is safe and suitable for all ages and abilities.
