Pentravel

Pentravel is a South African travel agency dealing exclusively in leisure and holiday travel, with no corporate travel division. Founded in 1983, the company currently has 20 shops scattered throughout South Africa. Most of the shops are situated in major shopping malls to allow for easy access. The staff are very helpful and generally tend to work face-to-face with clients. This direct liaison helps to easily plan your holiday without any unnecessary delays. The staff work with all aspects of the travel industry – airlines, hotels, car rental companies, visas, foreign exchange, etc – to ensure that they’re you’re one stop travel planning destination.
Pentravel (www.pentravel.co.za) deals with both local and international travel needs, and packages can be put together for South Africa, Africa, Australasia, Europe, the Far East, the Indian Ocean Islands, the Middle East and North and South America. The company also has a programme of fully escorted group tours. These tours have been in effect since 1990 and have proved extremely popular. They cover Europe, the United States of America, the Far East and Australia.
Operational since 1983, Pentravel grew substantially after 1999 when it joined the Cullinan group, a publicity company. From it’s single shop in Durban, Pentravel slowly started spreading to Cape Town, Jo’burg, Port Elizabeth and Pretoria. The company started heavy promotions aimed at youth camping tours, inexpensive cruises and coach tours. It was then decided that the company would work exclusively with British Airways – eventually allowing Pentravel to sell the cheapest British Airways tickets in the country. After some time, Pentravel joined forces with Flight Centre in an attempt to form a stronger travel service. The merge didn’t work and the 2 eventually split up. Pentravel did however learn from the experience and, seeing the effect of being located conveniently within shopping centres, moved all their shops into some of the country’s main shopping malls. Here they hope to be easily accessible and ever-present in the minds of travelers throughout South Africa.
